Phoning it in

Posted by naturallyright on Aug 04 2008 | Uncategorized

Blech.  I hate Mondays.  I mean, I really hate Mondays.  Rarely is there anything to look forward to on a Monday.  The weekend is over and it’s nothing but the long week ahead.  Excuse me while I pout.

Things have been crazy at work recently.  When work gets crazy I tend to ignore my life outside of work.  It doesn’t help that I took work home with me every day last week.  The house is a mess and projects are being ignored.  Not good.  I am hosting a party at the house in two weeks.  Can I hire someone to scrub the house from top to bottom and finish all my projects?  Oh, while they are at it, can they unpack the rest of the boxes in the garage?  Thanks!  My mom is coming in town to help with the party.  Hmm, I wonder what I can get her to help me with.

I have been trying to advance my blog into the 21st century.  I finally caved and signed up for Twitter.  Dear Lord, why did I hold out!  I love it!  So addictive.  Plus, I feel like I am ease dropping on all the good gossip.  Much fun!  But, is there anyone out there who speaks fluent CSS who can make my Twitter update a hard title and not a hotlink?  I think it blends with the other links and I would rather it stand out as a section on its own.  Make sense?

I am also working on adding a working RSS feed.  I have always had a link on my sidebar to subscribe to a feed, but I don’t use them so I never actually checked to see if mine work.  It doesn’t.  Heh.  Thanks to Playgroupie, I think I can actually get this working!  And when I say I, I really mean B because he is the techy behind this site.  I will soon be caving to RSS.  Look at me growing up!

You may have also noticed that I added a page/tab at the top for my blogroll.  I kept finding new favorites and my list on the sidebar was either excluding favorites or out of control long.  Now I can link everyone I love.  If you want to be added, let me know.  I am all about spreading the linky love.

Be careful out there.

Dude, the pressure.

Posted by naturallyright on Jul 20 2008 | Uncategorized

Hi, my name is Megan and I have a blog.  Not exactly the way you introduce yourself.  Most of the people who read my blog are fellow bloggers.  Bloggers that I read and converse with who in turn return the favor to my little ole blog.  Hi blogger friends!

It’s not that I hide my blog, hello google my name and you found me!  This website use to be our wedding website.  Our family and friends knew about sagowitz.com at one time, so they could easily find it again.  They might be reading right now. Hi friends and family.

But now I know friends know and the pressure is huge!

This weekend we had a girls’ party/reunion/bridal shower and word got out about my blog.  A few friends knew about it, only one actually reads.  Hi Jenna!

Everyone wanted to know what I blog about.  How do you answer that?  To me, I think my blog is hilarious.  I am my own best audience.  But seriously, I blog about nothing and everything.  My daily life, random conversations I have with B, my dogs, things I like, things I don’t like… really it is pretty mundane.  But to me, it is fun.

Now my closest friends all know about my blog and they say they are going to stop by.  Ahh!  Not that I have anything to hide or be embarrassed by, but it is just different (weird? awkward? totally awesome? I am not sure.).

So, hi friends!  Don’t judge me if you think I am just as unfunny online as I am in real life.  I will always think I am funny in both.  Maybe I am just overthinking it and everyone had too many club specials to remember the blog talk.

Stay tuned for girls gone wild pictures.  Except minus the gone wild part because one of us is a mother, one of us is married, two of us are engaged and we are all just old.

13 minutes I will never get back

Posted by naturallyright on Jul 16 2008 | Uncategorized

Oh B. How do you always manage to wrangle me into your geeky world?

For days now, B had been pestering me to watch some online musical blog.

“But it is a musical, you love musicals,” he would argue.

Finally I caved. My argument that I have a life outside of the Internet was not sticking.

I watched the ridiculous musical video blog and IT WAS HILARIOUS!

Do you like Neil Patrick Harris? Do you like Nathan Fillion? Then go here and watch Act I? Yes, it is 13 minutes of your life you will never get back, but it is worth it.

The best part, Act II comes out tomorrow (July 17). Awesome.

Quick honey! Buy a lottery ticket!

For someone who has never won anything in her entire life, this sure is my lucky month! I just won Sohobutterfly’s De-Lurk Yourself contest!

I rule!

Ok, so maybe this time the contest didn’t require any skill, but luck is just as important. Let me tell you, nonbloggers are really missing out on the free giveaways. I think one day I am going to have to pay this forward and come up with my own contest.

BTW, this is what I won:

Pretty sweet, huh? I can’t wait to get it!

Notice anything different?

Since I have no design talent of my own, I have to wait for Traci to get sick of looking at my banner.  Luck for me, she is not a patient person.

Thanks Traci!  And to the wonderful B who changed some codes so my colors match.

My own little BlogHer

Posted by naturallyright on May 07 2008 | Uncategorized

Have you heard about BlogHer?  Specifically BlogHer 2008, the conference?  I am sure most of your have, but for my limited nonblogging audience it is the conference where a bunch of fellow bloggers get together and drink gossip um, I am not really sure what goes on, I have never been.

Well this weekend I am having my own little BlogHer in Oklahoma.  Everyone is invited!  Just kidding, only you are invited.  I don’t have enough towels for everyone.  LauReality (and my brother-in-law) are coming to visit this weekend!

Can I tell you how excited I am about meeting a fellow blogger?  I know a few of my daily reads in real life already, but this is the first person I will meet strictly knowing them from a blog.  Oh, and that whole she is dating my brother-in-law, but that is not important.  Blogging comes before family.  (That was good, I should copyright that.)

We plan on doing a little drinking, a little eating and lots of picture taking.  I have also never had a fellow photographer to pal around with and seek out cool things to snap pictures of.  Awesome!  Now maybe I will have enough things to talk about to get me through another week.

Now if the weather would just calm down.  I don’t want to scare our company away by forcing them to hang out in our tornado closet with the dogs.

Wah?!?

Posted by naturallyright on Apr 29 2008 | Uncategorized

One of my new favorite bloggers, Ashley, posted a challenge for people to show the funniest/weirdest things people have searched for to find your blog.

Before I go into the crazies, I highly recommend Ashley’s blog.  First, she is an amazing photographer, second, she is very entertaining and she has an adorable bulldog puppy.  What is not to love?  Check her out.

Now, on to the good stuff.  When I first started blogging (five months ago–Can you believe it?), I was obsessed with checking my stats.  Who was clicking, how did they find me, what were my biggest hits… well that got boring fast because no one was clicking, no one found me in interesting ways and I have no big hits.  Fail.  But time has passed and Ashley reminded me how entertaining stats can be.  Here are some of my most entertaining searches:

  • Reduce my nose naturally.  Sorry Charlie, I am not sure that is possible and you certainly aren’t going to find that here.
  • I am naturally right.  No, no you are not.  I am naturally right.  There can only be one.
  • Spaking wife youtube.  What?  What is spaking, and if you meant spanking boy are you in the wrong place.
  • Weight watcher points for Snuffer’s.  Honey, you don’t even want to know.  You won’t find the answer here, but that is because it is probably so outrageous you could never return to that delicious place of cheese fry heaven.
  • I wet my bed.  This is by far my most popular hit.  All I can say is it happens.  I did it and told my shameful secret to all the Internets.  I hope it brings all the other bed wetters comfort and maybe a little humor.  But if you need more than that, try this.
  • And the creepiest one yet, someone searched my first name, last name and school alumni.  Sure, I am not hard to find, but this person was really looking.  I hope it was an ex-boyfriend just dying to know where I was.  Look at me now sucker!  Jealous?
  • So what are your most entertaining searches?  Any crazy stalkers reading your blog?  I think it is funny when readers come out of the woodworks.  I have friends who tell me, “Oh yeah, I saw that on your blog.”  What?!?  You did?  You mean you like me, you really like me!  Except I don’t say that out loud, but the thoughts totally run through my mind.

If anyone wants to take the bold step and delurk themselves today, post a comment.  Let me know who I need to stop talking about.  Ha!  Kidding.  Expect that worked on my mom.  She finally figured out I was calling her out for not being my biggest fan.  Now she is reading almost daily.  Shoot.  (But secretly, HI MOM!)

    A Very EmilyPie Photo Challenge.

Posted by naturallyright on Feb 28 2008 | Uncategorized

Over at EmilyPie, there is a weekly photo challenge going on.  This week’s challenge is Macro, or a shot of something up close.  I don’t have a true macro lens, but I do have a brand spanking new nifty fifty to play with!

Since there aren’t any pretty flowers or interesting foliage around my house right now, I chose to take a picture of the green-est (and only living) plant I have.  My aloe plant.  (I actually have almost killed this plant a few times, but every time my mom comes to visit she manages to save its life.)

    aloe

Oooo, ahhh.  Pretty.  For any pros out there, don’t laugh at my skills, or lack there of.  I am learning.  Slowly, but surely, I am learning.  (Feel free to give me tips or techniques!)

Go check out EmilyPie’s blog for more macro shots!

    Two loves in one package!

Posted by naturallyright on Feb 27 2008 | Uncategorized

Was anybody else a huge geeky fan of the Babysitter’s Club books as I was?  I loved these books!  My childhood dream was to have my own babysitter’s club.  Unfortunately, my parents wouldn’t get me my own phone line to open up shop.  (Oh don’t worry, I finally got that phone line.  For Christmas.  Of my senior year.  I used the heck out of that phone for seven glorious months!)

The other day I happened to stumble across this blog.  Yes, a whole blog dedicated to Babysitter’s Club books.  Reading through some of the posts stirred another memory.

Does anyone remember the Babysitter’s Club TV show?  I don’t remember the show actually being on TV, but my way cooler best friend (whose parents got her her own phone line) had some of the shows on VHS.  Remember the theme song?

I hope you aren’t singing that song the rest of the day like I have been. Sorry about that.

Anyway, in the midst of all this reminiscing and nostalgia, I came across my best YouTube find to date.  It is the most perfect combination of my childhood obsession and my present day crush.  You have to see it to believe it!

Total and utter awesomeness.  I am half tempted to search eBay to see if I can find the entire 13 episodes of the Babysitter’s Club TV show!  Too bad I don’t own a VHS player anymore.  I am fairly certain these puppies won’t be released on DVD any time soon.
