The other day I was sitting out on our screened in porch and I noticed a ton of monarch butterflies fluttering around my mums. I ran inside to grab my camera, giddy with excitement that my backyard was a stop on the migration trail. I don’t remember seeing a monarch since my elementary school days when we would hatch them and then release them into the wild.

Once I started snapping pictures I realized these butterflies looked different from what I remembered. After I got a few good shots I went inside to look up pictures of monarch butterflies. That is when I discovered I did not have beautiful, delicate monarch butterflies in my backyard. I had fat, furry painted ladies, which technically still is a butterfly, but they have that gross furry body like a moth. In my mind, if it looks like a moth, that totally makes it a moth.

Oh well, I still got some cool pictures, with my point and shoot camera no less!

This weekend one of my best friend’s got married in Dallas. It was a beautiful wedding (remind me to show you the amazing centerpieces later). I enjoyed being back in my home town and seeing some friends I haven’t seen in years. I also enjoyed getting a small taste of the world of wedding photography. And let me just say, HOLY CRAP, I have a new found appreciation for wedding photogs. The pressure! It probably doesn’t help matters that I was completely unprepared (my fault, not the brides).

Mandi, the beautiful bride and great friend of mine, asked if I would take pictures at the wedding rehearsal. I was planning on taking some pictures anyway, so of course I agreed. I brought my camera, flash, spare batteries, extra lens… I was ready to go. Heh. Notice I didn’t list memory card. I packed my whole camera bag and never bothered to check if there was a memory card in the camera, let alone a spare card in the bag. Nothing like running to CVS to buy a cheap memory card that is way over priced. Also, I found out at the rehearsal, my flash had corroded batteries in it so it wouldn’t work. Spare batteries don’t do much good when the flash won’t work period. I also found out at the rehearsal that my camera battery was almost dead. Luckily, I had a spare that had a little bit more charge and I brought my charger. Whew, stress. I was panicked that I wouldn’t have a single shot worth anything.

Thank goodness for digital cameras. I took close to 300 pictures and I have about 40 to work with. It was fun getting to use my camera for something besides pictures of my dogs, but I don’t think I want start booking jobs anytime soon.

Enough about me though, how about I share some of my favorite shots from the rehearsal.

Later in the week (or next month knowing my track record) I will post pictures from the wedding. B and I had a little too much fun, but it was worth it. We never get a wild weekend away with no responsibilities!

The beautiful fall colors are quickly fading and before long everything will be brown and mucky. Before everything gets too depressing, I thought I would post some happy fall pictures from Canada. I never knew fall until I saw a Canadian fall. Wow, I mean wow. I don’t think these pictures even capture the vast beauty of it all. Everywhere you look there is another stunning, vibrant color. It truly was amazing.

Yes, that is sitting inside of my refrigerator as we speak. All six pounds and 11 ounces of it. Kind of disgusting, right? Even though I am the one with the mild obsession, B is actually to blame for this one. This is what happens when I let him wander alone in Sam’s. We end up coming home with random items like this.

Anyone want to have a fake cheese party? I am afraid it might take ten years for two people to consume this much fake cheese. If it takes any less than that, I will be even more afraid.

Puppy Bark came for a visit this weekend. If anyone out there wants to know how to become my #1 BFF, go get a puppy. And then bring him over all the time. I will pretty much do anything for you at that point. I have high standards, don’t I?

Zoey and Servo have very different ideas on how to treat a puppy. Zoey thinks like her mother and thinks all puppies are her new best friend. She wants to hug them and squeeze them and keep them for her own. Servo, not so much. Poor Servo is still quite a baby himself. He is half terrified and half mesmerized by new puppies. I think he is also confused as to why the latest new toy doesn’t have a squeaker. Servo thinks all stuffed animals should squeak.

After subjecting puppy Bark to about twenty minutes of thorough inspection by Zoey and Servo, we decided it was time to pull out the video camera to see if anyone else has experienced this unusual behavior. Also, it was just too funny not to share.

I made my very first blog header last night! Since I was glued to the tv for 4+ hours anyway, I thought I would do something productive. And I only said 192 cuss words in the process. You are lucky B was around to talk me down. I was very close to throwing my computer out the window and shutting down the blog forever. Photoshop and I don’t get along so well.

I also changed the layout ever so slightly. (And by I, I mean B.) I haven’t seen the new look on other computer monitors so more changes might be coming soon. From where I am sitting right now though, I am one happy blogger. The new layout seems cleaner and I think I will be able to post larger pictures. Sweet!

Let me know if you see any glitches from where you are sitting.

This was my first time to vote on Election Day at an actual polling place. Go me! It was very exciting, but I was super disappointed to find out I didn’t get a curtain to stand behind. Bummer.

Our polling place official told us in the last election, our district had 52 total voters. At 8:30 a.m., I was the 180th person to turn in a ballot. Sweet!

We stood in line 45 minutes, can anyone top that?

The first poll closes in 3 hours*, get out and vote!

*As of writing this at 2 p.m. Central Standard Time. Also, let’s pretend that is a shadow in the picture and not a horrible makeup line on my chin. Yikes.
