B and I have been in a movie watching mood lately. Nothing like a hangover and avoiding boxes in the garage to make you want to watch movies! In the past three days we have seen four movies. Impressed or concerned? Yeah, I don’t know either.

Three of the four movies watched recently were sweet, heartwarming movies. First, let’s talk about Wall-E. Congrats Pixar, you hit another one out of the park. Now I am not going to say Wall-E is their best movie, but it was cute and I think this one appeals to adults the most. There was an environmental awareness message throughout the movie that I am sure some of the younger kids missed. Of course, maybe I am just underestimating kids today. If you don’t have kids, I would recommend going to the matinee showing just to get the whole kid wide-eyed wonderment feeling. The first time the robot said Wall-E in the movie about five kids repeated it. So stinking cute. How can you heart not melt? I may have even teared up during the movie. There were some touching parts, don’t laugh.
Dan in Real Life is another cute one. I heard mixed reviews about this movie, but I love Steve Carell so I wanted to check it out. Some of the movie is uncomfortable and almost painful to watch as the main character continues to get the short end of the stick, but it all works out and the movie delivers a happy ending. After watching this, I just wanted to snuggle on the couch with B. It really makes you appreciate the loved ones in your life. And besides, how do you not love a man raising three daughters?
The last “chick” movie we saw was Definitely, Maybe. Let me just say I think Ryan Reynolds is a hottie. Abigail Breslin is quite the little actress as well. The movie was funny and it was kind of an interesting twist on the typical love story. Don’t worry male readers reader, the movie is B tested and approved. If you are really worried about your manhood, there are three “hot chicks” in the movie. They outnumber the one male hottie so you are ok.
And if you are really against movies that might potentially make you cry, I recommend National Treasure 2: Book of Secrets. I really enjoyed the first one and the second one delivered as well. There is comedy, action, drama and who doesn’t love a good mystery. Plus, you know there probably really is a Presidential Book of Secrets hidden somewhere. They set this one up for a third installment so expect another summer hit in a couple years.
Now it is your turn. What movie am I missing out on that I just have to see? Now that we live seconds from a Redbox with $1 rentals, I have a feeling we will be watching many more movies in the coming weeks. Anything to avoid that pile of boxes!

ohhh… I LOVED Dan in Real Life. I thought it was so cute too. I’m excited to hear that Definitely, Maybe was good too because I’ve been wanting to see it. My husband is out of town 1 night a week… so that is my night to watch movies that he wasn’t thrilled to see. Thank goodness for On Demand. Helps keeps my lazy bum on the couch.
We don’t get to the theater too often… so I’m sure I’ll be seeing Wall-E when it comes out on video. I always like Pixar movies… so I can’t wait to see this one.
I like more art films and period-y movies. But I really enjoyed 27 Desses when I saw it on the plane last month!! Oh, and Juno was really cute too. More of my ilk, I think Atonment is fabulous, and the Other Boleyn Girl was a satisfying movie. You must have seen the Pianist - what an amazing movie, even if it is old!! Children of Men is good too.
Totally loved Dan In Real Life, can’t wait to soo Wall-E. I’ll have to get a babysitter stat!
I meant see…that’s how excited I am.
my husband and I are avid movie watchers…and I mean AVID. we get rentals from Netflix 6 at a time and cycle them through so that we could watch a movie (or more) every night of the week. what can I say? we’re homebodies!
a movie that I believe got mixed reviews but which I recently enjoyed was P.S. I Love You (with Hillary Swank and Gerard Butler). It’s totally a chick flick, but if you’re ever in need of a good cry (I cried basically throughout the whole film, even though there are quite a few comedic moments) this is the movie for you. it was also the movie that I paused (on more than one occasion), turned to my husband and told him he mustn’t, under any circumstances, EVER die. I totally snuggled with him for a good 25 minutes after the movie was over.
We just watched Fool’s Gold, but it wasn’t that great. Kind of fizzled on the side plots. I really want to see Wall-E now! Unfortunately, with the little squirt, our movie going is much more of an effort than it used to be…an effort of russling up a baby sitter and getting off our tired butts. But you’ve inspired me!
Matt and I just watched “Martian Child” which was pretty cute, especially if you’re a John Cusack fan.
Did you ever see “P.S. I Love You”? I never ever cry during movies, and that one had me weeping.
I just watched “The Other Boleyn Girl” also, and it was pretty entertaining but VERY different from the book and from history.
I just joined Family Video which also has super cheap rentals! I can’t wait to indulge this summer!
I love, Love, LOVE Chaos Theory with Ryan Reynolds. My guy watched it so B can watch it with you. No worries for him, there is a “hot chick” in the movie. Rent it, it will not disappoint. Seriously.
BTW, loved Dan in Real Life & Definitely, Maybe. Have yet to see Wall-E. We opted for Wanted instead which, coincidentally, I recommend.
Now go unpack!
