Things my Meemaw says.

In case you weren’t aware, I have the funniest Meemaw in the world.  You never know what insightful poetry is going to come out of her mouth next.  Meemaw is 85 years old and has never lived outside of Northeast Texas.  Meemaw is also quite the character.  She will always tell you exactly what she thinks, it might hurt your feelings, but it’s probably a true statement.

Over the holidays, Meemaw was getting herself all worked up while telling a story about the long wait at the doctor’s office.  To perfectly express her anger, Meemaw said, “I was so mad, I could eat an onion.”

Now at this point I was dying inside.  I looked around the room, nobody had the same hidden giggle face that I had.  Did anyone hear what she said?  How can you not laugh at that?

Now, cut to the next day.  My mom and I were out shopping and I asked her if she heard what Meemaw said yesterday.  My mom said, “Yes, she said she was so mad, she could eat an onion without any bread.”

What!?!  Without any bread?  How did I miss that poetry?  I must have still been stuck on the onion part.  Apparently my mom hears so many things come out of Meemaw’s mouth they don’t even phase her.

And for some history on this little jewel.  Back in the oldin’ days, when my Meemaw was a young child, they would make onion sandwiches.  Meat was too expensive.  So I guess that is where Meemaw got the phrase “eat an onion without any bread.”

Ahh, what will Meemaw think of next?

You should write a book! I am sure Aaron could co-author. Corrie, Shelby and Aaron spent some time with Meemaw this weekend and they were fascinated by stories from her youth! There really isn’t anyone as grand as a good ole Southern (especially NE Texas) Lady!
